Privacy Policy

Not A Real Deal ("we", "us") is operated by White and White Consultants, LLC. This policy explains what we collect when you use notarealdeal.com and our mobile app, why we collect it, and who it goes to. We've tried to write it in plain English.
The short version
- We collect your email address so you can sign in, and that's the only personal detail we ask for.
- We never see, handle or store your card details. Payments run entirely through Stripe.
- Your location is used to figure out which store you're standing in. We don't track your movements.
- Photos you scan are sent to our AI provider to read the price tag, and are not used to train AI models.
- We don't sell your personal information.
Information we collect

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, and the service isn't directed at them.
Payments
Scan packs are sold through Stripe. When you buy, you're taken to Stripe's own secure checkout page. Your card number, CVC and billing details are entered on Stripe's systems and are never transmitted to or stored on ours. We receive only a confirmation that payment succeeded, along with your email and the amount. Stripe's handling of your data is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.
How AI scanning works
When you submit a photo, we send that image to Anthropic's Claude API, which reads the price tag and barcode and returns text. Anthropic processes the image to serve your request and, under its commercial terms, does not use it to train its models. We keep the extracted result (product, price, verdict) in your scan history. Read the Anthropic Privacy Policy for details.
Location
If you grant location permission, your coordinates are used at the moment of a scan to look up the nearby store name, then discarded — we keep only the resulting store name attached to that scan. We do not build a location history, track you in the background, or share your coordinates with advertisers. You can deny or revoke location access at any time in your browser or phone settings and continue using the service.
Service providers we share data with
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Anthropic — AI reading of scan images.
- Cloudflare — hosting, database, security and privacy-focused analytics.
- Resend — delivering your sign-in code emails.
- Google AdSense — advertising (see below).
- Retailer and product data APIs — we send a product barcode or name to look up prices. We never send your identity or location to these services.
These providers act on our behalf and are permitted to use your information only to deliver their service to us. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers for cross-context behavioral advertising beyond the ad-network cookies described below.
Advertising and cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in — without these, the service can't work. We also display advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
You can opt out of personalized Google advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info/choices. More detail is in Google's partner policy.
How long we keep things
Account information and scan history are kept while your account is active. Submitted photos are processed to produce your result and are not retained as part of your history. Sign-in codes expire within minutes. Purchase records are kept as long as required for tax and accounting purposes.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Sessions use signed, HTTP-only cookies. Sign-in requires a one-time emailed code rather than a stored password, and repeated failed attempts are rate-limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Your choices and rights
You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and scan history by emailing us. Depending on where you live — for example in California under the CCPA/CPRA, or in the EEA/UK under the GDPR — you may have additional rights, including the right to access, delete, correct or port your data, and to opt out of sale or sharing (we don't sell). We won't discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
You can also revoke camera or location permissions at any time in your device settings.
Accuracy of prices
Prices we display are gathered from third-party sources and may be out of date or wrong. They're informational estimates, not guarantees. Always confirm the price with the retailer before buying.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
